Promoting Biblical Training
At AEF International, we are a group of Christian missionaries under a body formed by the late Dr G.D James to reach out to local communities in Asia through human links known as the national workers.
These national workers’ bodies, which include pastors and other members of missionary agencies undergo a certain training known as the Biblical training to complete the commissioning process. These national workers’ function lies in reaching out to their countrymen through missionary works in their communities.
The training arm of AEF International is the Asia College of Ministry (ACOM). It was formerly known as the Tamil Bible institute under our founder, Dr G.D James. He founded the Tamil Bible institute in 1977 at John Bahru. The institute got succeeded by the Asia College of Ministry to align with AEF International’s goal. The Asia College of Ministry operates in three states and which are not totally independents. They are located in John Bahru (teaching in Tamil), Kathmandu, Nepal (teaching in Nepal), Yangon Myanmar (teaching in Burmese).
ACOM is a higher biblical education institution founded majorly for training AEF International’s national workers. The school focuses on leadership training apart from spiritual training. This is in line with the word of God. For instance, Ephesians 4:12 states that “For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.” Also, 2 Timothy 3:16 says that all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for righteousness training.
The Bible also advised that one must discipline oneself for godliness and the fruit of discipline is the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Therefore, it is right in the Lord to encourage discipline and training among our national workers who are technically God’s workers. Like the Bible stated, we must first put our house together in one accord.
The head of the Asia College of Ministry is Dr Alan Meers, who worked with Perth Bible College alongside his wife, Margaret. He has been the head of ACOM for about 15 years, starting from 2004. The Asia College of Ministry program could at first accommodate only bachelor’s degree courses but has gone on to the master’s level. Very soon, we would offer PhD courses.
Dr Alan Meers was once a principal at Perth Bible College from 1984-2003 before joining us in 2004. He is also a worker and sermon preacher at Bedford Community Church. He wrote on a thesis titled “An identification of affective characteristics that employers seek in Bible College Graduates for Edith Cowan University. He is equally an author of several other articles.
Also, under his leadership, ACOM did not just transition to bachelor level but also has graduates at the Masters’ level. The Asia College of Ministry has also received recognition and respect across Asia for her excellent theological studies performance. It stands as a foundation for the development of workers in the vineyard of the Lord.
